PONY CLUB

Pony Club

There are three branches of the Pony Clubs of Kenya, which is affilated to the British Pony Club. In Nairobi there is Langata Pony Club which covers Karen and Langata. Kabete Pony Club based in Kitisuru, Muthaiga area. There is one upcountry Branch, the Mt Kenya Pony Club in Timau. These two of theses three branches (Langata and Mt Kenya) hold regular rallies and, although it is obviously better if a child owns his/her own pony, it is sometimes possible to lease suitable ponies from the riding schools, or borrow them from friends.  Pony Clubs hold different kinds of rallies throughout the year, which include instruction in all the riding disciplines and in Stable and Horse Management. They also hold gymkhanas etc.

At all Pony Club Events children meet and get to know each other, making friends across Kenya. Once a year, both Langata PC and Mt Kenya PC organise Pony Club Camps in stunning locations, which is a fantastic opportunity to see the different areas, to learn and ride in.

General Pony Club information

The Pony Clubs of Kenya are here to encourage young people up to the age of 21 years, to learn to enjoy riding their ponies and horses with the emphasis on learning through FUN, so that they can become focused in any discipline they prefer. It introduces the children to GAMES, CROSS COUNTRY JUMPING, SHOW JUMPING, POLO, DRESSAGE AND EQUITATION.

Each year the Pony Clubs of Kenya organise hugely successful and popular PONY CLUB CAMPS, which are usually held upcountry somewhere, where you take your own pony and look after it, with a bit of help!, for between 5 - 7 days. Here you will get some tuition and do lots of fun showjumping, cross country riding & hacking. The evenings are usually filled with quiz’s, entertainment and a party at the end of the week.

The Pony Clubs of Kenya standing committee put on a big show around Easter each year, which is held in Nairobi. Then during the term time each branch try to put on several rallies and one day training days for jumping and some dressage. THE Pony Club tests are learnt and the test is taken, usually, at the main summer camp, each year.
