ENTRIES CLOSE 17th NOVEMBER 2008
LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE COMMITTEE. HOWEVER, THEY WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE SHOW PROGRAMME. POST ENTRIES MAY BE ACCEPTED AT THE SHOW, TIME AND SCRATCHINGS PERMITTING
NOTE: Every effort will be made to accommodate competitors, but should classes clash the competitor will be asked to declare which class he/she intends to compete in. Competitors are reminded to be on time for their classes and to scratch if not competing
Membership and Registration: Competitors are reminded that unless they and all of their owners are paid up members of the Horse Association of Kenya (H.A.K) and their horses / ponies registered for 2008, their entries will not be accepted except for classes where stated otherwise.
Rules: All classes will be held under H.A.K rules. For rules and conditions, please consult the relevant section of the H.A.K rule book, amended 2008.
Limitation of Entries: No rider will be permitted to ride more than 4 horses / ponies during the show, and only 3 in any one class. Any rider riding more than 1 horse / pony should indicate on his / her entry form which horse / pony should have priority for time tabling purposes. No horse or pony may compete in more than 3 ridden classes per day, including Championships.
Hors Concours Entries: HC entries will be accepted at normal entry fees.
Post Entries: Post entries may be accepted at double entry fee, cancellations permitting, up to one hour before the start of the class.
Nomination Entries: Except where specifically prohibited, riders may be nominated, but the nomination of horse / ponies is not allowed.
Refund of Entry Fees: Competitors withdrawing their entries before 1 December 2008 will be refunded 75% of their entry fees.
Refund of Entries on Veterinary Certificate: Application for refund of entry fees must be made to the Hon. Show Secretary, accompanied by a vet's certificate. Applications must be received before the last day of the Show or they will be considered null and void. 25% of the entry fees will be retained by the show to cover secretarial and admin costs.
Substitution Entries: Substitutions will only be accepted in writing to the Chief Horse Steward not less than two hours before the start of the Class. The horse / pony substituted must be registered in the same ownership as that of the original entry, or an authorised agent may substitute any horse / pony for which they have authority to act, as defined under H.A.K rules. No horse / pony may be substituted in any competition for which it is not eligible and/or qualified. Substitutions will only be accepted in the classes of original entry.
Withdrawals: The Hon. Show Secretary must be informed of any withdrawals as soon as possible. Failure to provide notice to withdraw from a class will result in A FINE OF DOUBLE THE ENTRY FEE or a report to the Disciplinary Committee.
Age: Except where specifically permitted all horse / ponies must be 4 years and over to compete.
Measuring: All ponies must be in possession of a valid measurement certificate. Only horses requiring a measurement certificate for showing classes need to be measured (Rule 33). Any horse / pony which is not in possession of a valid Measurement Certificate and competes in a class for which one is needed will be fined and may be disqualified.
Reservation of Rights: The show committee reserves the right to:
Officials: Competitors and their employees must at all times obey all instructions they may receive from any show official, including the veterinary officer and stabling steward. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY INCUR DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE SHOW.
Official Veterinary Surgeon: The Official Veterinary Surgeon on duty or Ground Jury will have the final decision as to whether or not a horse / pony is fit to compete. Any horse / pony found to be unfit by the Official Veterinary Surgeon or Ground Jury shall not compete again until passed by the Official Veterinary Surgeon on duty or Ground Jury at a subsequent examination.
Objections: Any objection must be made formally to the Hon. Show Secretary accompanied by a Kshs. 1000/= deposit. The objection must be made in writing and dealt with in accordance with the H.A.K rules. Queries should be made to the Chief Steward of the Show.
Dress: All persons must wear protective headgear at all times when mounted on the show ground. No competitor will be allowed to take part unless he/she is properly dressed and wearing the appropriate headgear.
Unsupervised Children: All juvenile members, at the show, under the age of 18 must be properly supervised. In the case of a parent or guardian being unable to attend, an adult must be appointed to care for the child and act on its behalf. The name of the appointed person should be given to the Hon. Show Secretary. NO MOTORBIKE RIDING WILL BE PERMITTED ON THE SHOW GROUNDS. NON RIDING CHILDREN ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE COLLECTING ARENAS.
Rabies: All animals on the Show ground MUST be in possession of a valid Rabies Certificate or, without exception, will be required to leave the Show ground immediately and the owner warned or fined.
Entry into Jamhuri Park: All exhibitors’ horses/ponies, whether on foot or entering in a vehicle, must enter Jamhuri Park through ADC Gate which is opposite the Kenya Scouts turning.
Stabling: Stabling will be provided at the show ground at a cost of Kshs. 500/= per horse or pony. The stabling steward will allocate stabling, unless stables have been reserved already. Anyone found changing these arrangements or damaging, replacing or displacing stabling labels without the express permission of the Stabling Steward will be fined. Preventative measures must be taken for crib - biters and windsuckers or such horses must be placed in isolation. Coughing horses, if considered to be contagious, may be asked to leave the show grounds immediately.
Stores: Stores maybe available subject to availability at the cost of Kshs. 500/= for the duration of the show.
Fodder and Bedding: Fodder and bedding will not be available at the show.
Syces: Syces will be under the discipline of the stabling steward and must be instructed to obey their orders. Syces should be supplied with an electric torch. Gas/paraffin lamps/stoves and cooking fires are only permitted in the 4 designated areas. Employers of syces found with fires outside of these areas will be disciplined under the H.A.K rules. There will be a Kshs. 5000/= minimum fine and disqualification from the show if this rule is breached.
Exercising: Competitors / syces may not exercise on, over or near any arena or course used for competition either mounted or with a horse in hand.
Practice Arenas: Children must be accompanied by an adult or responsible older child when using practice jumps. The practice jumps must be jumped in the direction indicated.
Parking: NO parking will be permitted in the practice / collecting arenas. Only essential services will be issued with tickets / stickers permitting parking in front of the control tower.
Campsites: Camping sites are available on the show ground. Applications to camp must be made in writing to: The Secretary, A.S.K., P.O. Box 30176 NBI 00100. Applications must be received by the A.S.K not less than one full month in advance.
Cups and Trophies: All cups and trophies must be returned POLISHED to Mrs P. Christy not later than 18th November 2008. Failure to do so before this date may result in the refusal to award cups / trophies to the individual at this year’s show and a fine will be imposed on the individual.
Disclaimer of Liability: The organisers of this show will not accept liability for any accident, injury, illness or damage of any kind to animals, owners, riders, spectators, officials, ground or any other person of property whatsoever.
Medical Levy: Included in the cost of each class is a fee of shs.75/- per horse to cover the cost of ambulance attendance on every day of the Show.
Jamhuri Park Fee: Included in the cost of each class is a fee of shs.50/- to go towards the Jamhuri Park Arena Maintenance and Improvement Fund.
Incorrect / incomplete Entry Forms WILL be returned
No horse or pony may compete in more than FOUR RIDDEN CLASSES per day – excluding working hunter & ridden showing championship classes
All Cups and Trophies must be returned POLISHED to Trish Christy – or left at the HAK Office - NOT LATER than 18th November 2008
Riding Horse Classes are divided into best small (n/e 15.2hh) and best large and entries should be in possession of valid measurement certificates.
Open Hunter Class, if sufficient entries received, may be divided. Weight and height MUST BE STATED ON ENTRY FORM:

Best L/W (capable of carrying up to 76 kgs)
Best M/W (capable of carrying more than 76 kgs)
Open Hack Class is divided into two classes. Height MUST BE STATED ON ENTRY FORM:
Small hack (n/e 15.1hh)
Large hack.

Young Rider Sections in all Adult Classes will be made if there are 10 or more Young Rider Entries. Please include age (eligibility) for Young Rider on Entry Form.
